Bike cases are made from anything, pressboard boxes to relatively bulletproof hard bike cases. Despite the fact that pressboard boxes (very easily purchased from bike shops) are generally bull crap as a shipping and delivery container, through UPS or FedEx, they really do have a place if you're planning on checking in your bike at the airport terminal and want a disposable container once you get off the plane. Most would suggest you double box your bike -- cut the bottom out of one and slide them into one another -- while traveling light.
